The official Korean class guide says eight classes exist, expected for global launch too. Brawler shipped only in Korea and Taiwan. One main weapon each.

Eight classes. Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter.

The ninth is Brawler. It arrived with Chapter 1 on July 1, 2026 in Korea and Taiwan, and it was not on the global launch roster.

Every class has exactly one main weapon. Both factions can play every class.

The number eight comes from the official Korean class guide, “클래스 소개”. The original text reads “이 세계에는 서로 다른 역할과 전투 스타일을 지닌 8종의 클래스가 존재합니다” - this world has eight classes with different roles and combat styles.

The weapon mapping comes from community wikis and long-term player testing, not an official English page. The reason is below.

The ninth class: Brawler

Brawler uses an exclusive weapon, the gauntlet. Basic attacks and active skills build Rage; filling it triggers Rampage and swaps to a different skill set. It is built to charge the front line with combos and dashes.

NC’s July 6, 2026 press release confirms it arrived with Chapter 1, and that every player received one free character slot to mark the launch.

Whether global players get it is on the Brawler page.

Why picking a main is expensive

Three mechanics make this a hard decision to undo.

  1. One main weapon per class. Changing weapon means changing class.
  2. Rerolling is costly. Switching class is not a talent swap. It means a new character and a fresh levelling run. A creator with 1,000+ hours on the Korea and Taiwan service puts it plainly: “rerolling is not easy in Aion 2”.
  3. Growth runs through Stigma builds, not free resets. NC’s press release notes Chapter 1 raised the Stigma cap to level 25, which tells you it is an investment line.

Add limited character slots and a deletion timer that is not instant - creator testing on the Korean service puts it around a week to free a slot. So “I will just roll one and switch later” is a plan with a real invoice attached.

How to choose

Four steps are enough.

  1. Decide the role first, not the class. Ask whether you want to tank, melee damage, ranged physical, magic, heal or support. The eight classes cover each.
  2. Eliminate by weapon. One weapon per class. If you know you do not want a dagger or a shield, those classes are out.
  3. Narrow to two or three and level them into one dungeon. A dungeon exposes the real rhythm of a class faster than mob grinding. You learn how much you reposition and how you cope under focus.
  4. Use “would I still enjoy this in a group” as the final test. No ranking exists that you can safely copy right now.

What long-term players say

The points below are not official descriptions. They come from creators who have played the Korea and Taiwan service for a long time. They help you judge whether a class suits you, but do not treat them as global numbers.

  • Cleric is always in demand. From levelling to endgame. In practice you cast more damage skills than heals, because there simply are not many heals. Groups care little about your damage, but you have to watch buff timing.
  • Chanter is the lowest-stress support. No positional requirement like an Assassin, and enough range to stay safe. Very welcome in groups and large-scale PvP. Lower gear bar than a healer.
  • Gladiator has stayed strong for a long time. The creator’s phrasing was strong from day one through day 300. Brings group buffs, can off-tank, comes online fast.
  • Assassin has a high ceiling and low forgiveness. You must stay behind the boss to deal damage, and you are squishy. Great for players who want high execution demand, not a comfortable beginner pick.
  • “Spiritmaster is the best solo class” is a myth. The creator calls it out directly: some classes farm easy solo content faster, and hardcore solo content like Nightmare suits others better. Its real selling point is surviving, not damage ceiling.

A quick split by goal

Your goalSuggested starting point
New player / wants to soloRanger, Gladiator, Spiritmaster
Wants instant group invitesCleric, Templar
Wants to bring value to a guildChanter, Cleric
High-execution PvPAssassin, Sorcerer
High latencyCleric, Chanter (support roles are not judged on damage); if you refuse to support, Spiritmaster, since most damage comes from the pet

The creator’s subjective “easiest to pick up” order: Gladiator, Ranger, Spiritmaster, Templar, Chanter. Most casual-friendly: Cleric, Gladiator, Chanter.

Why there is no tier list here

There is no trustworthy global class ranking right now.

Two reasons. First, nobody outside Asia has played the global build, so every ranking is built on Korea and Taiwan data. Second, NC is still actively rebalancing classes; the creator’s phrasing is that core identities stay roughly stable while relative strength keeps moving.

The tier lists circulating online are almost all sampled from the live Asia build. The global build is a separately constructed service and NC has published no parity list.

Rather than copy a ranking that may expire on launch day, use the four steps above. The creator takes the same line: instead of trusting anyone’s ranking, look at percentile data from real combat-log sites.

For the caster decision, see Sorcerer or Spiritmaster. For how combat and targeting actually work, see the gameplay overview.
