Three short paragraphs cover it.

Before launch, decide three things: faction, server, class.

On day one, do three things: test both control modes, follow the main quest, run at least one dungeon.

Three traps catch most people: assuming you can reroll whenever; not knowing free accounts cannot trade; spending limited entries on content you will outgrow.

Three decisions before launch

DecisionWhat it shapesHow reversible
Faction (Elyos / Asmodian)Which side of the map you start on. Sealed dungeons later send you through a rift to the other sideHard. It is an account-level starting condition
ServerWho shares your economy and matchmakingHard. Picking a region whose hours suit you matters more than anything
ClassHow much time you will spend rerollingHardest. Weapon is bound to class, and switching means a new character

NC lists four server regions: North America, South America, Europe and Japan. Eight in-game languages. Confirming both before launch beats asking around on the day.

Five steps for day one

  1. Settle faction and server before you log in. Without this, every later choice gets locked into the wrong place.
  2. Spend 15 minutes on both control modes. Action mode and classic mode, swappable at any time. Veterans may prefer classic, but creators recommend action mode with the modern combat pacing. Keep whichever feels right.
  3. Do not perfect your appearance first time. You can change it later. The creator’s advice is to screenshot or record every slider value - you will not want to rebuild it from scratch on launch day. Character-creation lighting also differs a lot from in-game lighting, so set an approximate look, then fine-tune once you are in the world.
  4. Follow the main quest, and fill gaps with regional quests. This is the time-efficient path. Main quest first; when you stall, regional quests top up your level. The game routes you into other systems by itself.
  5. Run at least one dungeon once you can. Dungeons expose real feel faster than mob grinding. You learn how much you reposition and how you handle being focused. It is also the best moment to decide whether to change class.

With only one day to play, spend it on step 2 and step 3: pick a class you like the look of and get the appearance right. Levels can be earned any time.

Four things you will regret in week one

This section comes from a player who recorded his own mistakes as a full list (Korea and Taiwan service, original video). None are misclicks. All are money spent badly.

One: maxing transition gear. Gear at a certain level is enough to enter the next tier, and the next tier replaces it. He parks transition pieces at 10-12 and only pushes long-term gear.

Two: investing early in things you will replace. Transfers carry enhancement and some stats, but mana stones and soul stones stay behind. Chasing perfect rolls on transition gear is money burnt.

Three: spending soulbind or synthesis chances on transition gear. Rolling stats is luck-driven. He reports needing ten to twenty attempts for the roll he wanted, so he only spends those chances on slots he knows he will keep.

Four: not locking important items. The game has an item lock. One misclick during synthesis or extraction costs resources outright.

Two more matter just as much: do not build a pile of alts (some content is server-wide budget), and do not burn resurrection stones (limited and expensive - corpse-run when you can).

The underlying rule does not depend on the patch: ask “will this be replaced soon” before spending.

The one thing free accounts must know

The Market (auction house) and the Kina-to-Quna exchange require an active membership, at USD 15 a month. NC states this plainly in the monetization notice.

Which means: as a free player, drops you find cannot be listed for sale.

That changes how you handle loot early. Do not hoard “to sell later”. Use or dismantle drops instead. If you genuinely need to trade, treat membership as a one-month tool rather than committing to a year. The full structure is on the membership and monetization breakdown.

Three mistakes to avoid

One: assuming you can reroll freely. Changing class is not a talent swap. It is a new character and a fresh levelling run. A creator with 1,000+ hours on the Asia service puts it plainly: “rerolling is not easy in Aion 2”.

Two: assuming deletion frees a slot immediately. Creator testing puts the Korean deletion cooldown at about a week. So you neither have a free slot nor can clear the old character straight away. Slots per server are limited too. “I will just roll a few to test” has a price.

Three: burning entries on content you will outgrow. Almost all PvE has a budget. Dungeons cost energy; daily dungeons have a weekly cap that is server-wide; daily and weekly quests are fixed in number. Spending a budget badly does not cost “a bit of loot” - it means falling behind on item level and losing access to later content. The rules are on dungeons and PvE.

Get the fiddly things done before launch

What actually eats week one is not levelling - it is sitting in the character creator and the settings menu. Two creators agree.

  • Screenshot or record every appearance slider. There is no one-click preset save. On launch day everyone is racing for names, and burning hours in the creator is the worst trade available.
  • Decide control mode and keybinds in advance. There are two control modes, swappable at any time. Trying both beforehand beats fumbling on the day.
  • Work through graphics and effect options. Effects are split into categories with adjustable priority; lowering the non-essential ones noticeably improves readability in group fights. Specifics are on system requirements.

Three rules for spending entries

  1. Anything that raises gear comes first. Item level gates later dungeons. It is a hard wall, and NC’s notes describe requirements rising with difficulty.
  2. Point daily entries at the enhancement-material track. Enhancement materials are the scarcest resource early, and creators single this out as the best return.
  3. Bank limited reward keys. Creators suggest holding Shugo Festival keys until you are capped, when the rewards are actually useful. The keys stack.

Week one rhythm

StageWhat to doGoal
Before launchLock faction, server and class shortlist; installDo not spend launch day deciding and downloading
Day oneAppearance, both control modes, main questSettle class and feel
Days 2-3Continue the main quest, start entry dungeonsPush item level
Days 4-7Daily and weekly content, handle gear and materialsBuild a stable daily loop
After thatCosmetics, collection, minigamesPlay without stalling gear

Gear and dungeon gates are on dungeons and PvE. Which class to take is on the class list. Nothing installed yet? Start with Steam or PURPLE.
